There is Magic

For SATB choir with soprano solo, a cappella

“There is Magic” attempts to capture the fragility of a moment in time, whether it be in nature or in a concert hall. Opening with a floating solo voice, the song uses dissonance to create a shimmery effect. It builds to a polyphonic section that plays with consonant sounds before ending in the same way it began.

Performed by Josiah Maxfield, bass-baritone; John Brough, tenor; Mairi-Irene
McCormack, mezzo-soprano; Abby Mendola, mezzo-soprano; Zoe
Delos Santos, soprano; Grace Samycia, soprano; Maria Pottle, soprano

There is Magic
Gina Friedrich

There is magic in the cold
of whispering wind and empty road,
the winter’s glow, the sparkling snow
that blows away like dandelion fluff.

There is magic in the glade
of twisted trees and tangled shade,
of moss that sways in misty rain,
of dewdrops that water the ancient roots.

There is magic here tonight,
of bated breath and focused sight,
A pause in time, awoken by
the final echo of a lingering voice.
